AMPHITEATRE STAGE DESIGN
In a group of 16 members, all 12
groups of RUS104 need to design a comprehensive studio project that includes
the aspects of site analysis, architectural and interior design, structure and
material selection, simple costing, project management, and construction
technique of the scale size building (model). We should consider the design with the topography condition of the given site. Our site is next to the end of the E08 studio building. Our studiomaster for this project is Dr Mazran Ismail.

DESIGN CONCEPT
Echo
of Silence, there
goes the name of our amphitheatre stage. As the irony in the name may sound,
silence does echo in our amphitheatre stage as it is inspired from the conical
shell (also known as conus). Conus is one of the most sought-after seashell,
with its intricate colour patterns renowned. Its beauty is boasted throughout
the world thus comes the title of “Glory of the Seas”.
Take
a deep thought of the seashells along the seafront of the sandy beach, picking
up a seashell, put it close to your ear, what exactly was that vibrating your
eardrum, echoing in your mind over and over again? The echo of silence it is.
The resonance of sound reflects the calmness and serene, it is exactly what we
want our audience to discover and feel in our unique, comfortable and heartily
designed amphitheatre stage.
The
water features below the stage and surrounding the stage is one of our effort
to enhance the audiences’ experience at USM amphitheatre stage. There is an
elegant water fountain in front of the stage with splendid water show during
certain hours to entertain the audiences. The water pond below the stage draw
distance between the sky and water nearer as tempered glass is used as part of
the stage’s roof and floor slab. It made the performers as well as the
audiences to feel pristine to look up into the sky and down into the water just
through a piece of glass in between the elements.
Our design all
about nature. Therefore, students, staffs and lecturers being the audiences are
given the opportunities not only to view the Strait of Malacca from afar but
also to experience the relaxing and refreshing condition by themselves in USM
campus.
we have combined timber and tempered glass as the stage's main construction materials for our stage. so it will looks nice and gorgeous...besides that, we need do a progress report and a design proposal report (final report).
